My name is Risa. I'm 23 years old and live in Boca Raton, Florida. I have battled with my weight since I was about 6 years old, and for the last couple years, I was finally winning the fight. But I slipped, gaining back 36lbs from my lowest weight in ages. Now I'm buckling down again to shed the weight so I can look on the outside the way I feel on the inside. But the road isn't always straight and smooth. For more information on my life-long weight loss journey, please view my first post here. This blog exists for me, to keep me on track and motivated. Hi Risa. So I'm kind of embarrassed about this and this is why I'm anon. Honestly you're the only person I could think of coming to about this even though we don't talk at all. I'm 5'2 and I weigh 186 pounds. I gained about 30 pounds over 2 years from depression. My healthy weight is 116. Basically I have to lose 70 pounds and I'm terrified. Thing is I don't want to lose it quickly because I don't want loose skin or stretch marks. I don't look my weight at all. I look a little "fluffy." (c)

But I don’t look obese like my weight is telling me that I am. Anyways I heard that you should only lose 50 pounds during a year. I want to lose the weight slowly and healthy. So I was thinking if I lose 30 to 40 pounds within a year and then I wait a year for my body to get use to my new weight. And then after that year of waiting I lose the rest of the 30 extra pounds. Will that help with not getting extra skin? Thank you so much.

First off,

Second, I talk about excess skin a bit in my FAQ. There is no way to solidly predict if you’ll get excess skin or how to prevent it. But if you lose weight at a reasonable and steady rate with a well-balanced diet and regular exercise (and stay hydrated), you minimize your chances of excess skin. Just don’t try to push more than 2lbs a week. And do remember: even if you do get excess skin, chances are it will stretch back with nutrition, toning, and hydration over the course of 6 months to a year.

And even if it doesn’t, it’s not the end of the world. :)
