My name is Risa. I'm 23 years old and live in Boca Raton, Florida. I have battled with my weight since I was about 6 years old, and for the last couple years, I was finally winning the fight. But I slipped, gaining back 36lbs from my lowest weight in ages. Now I'm buckling down again to shed the weight so I can look on the outside the way I feel on the inside. It’s not all about calories and weight loss: healthy eating is about keeping you cancer free, heart disease free, diabetes free and optimizing your chances of living a healthy, long life. Not every state requires a label (this one is from California), but the same foods are available EVERYWHERE.

While I agree that McDonald&#8217;s is nowhere near the epitome of health, California puts those cancer labels on EVERYTHING. I once saw a lamp that said eating it can give you cancer. The once in a while french fry or baked potato is not going to kill you. Eating it everyday a la Super Size Me, yeah, that&#8217;ll do damage.

Wow. Pretty powerful adverts from NYC’s Department of Health. When confronted about the “in your face” approach of these ads, Mayor Michael Bloomberg went on the attack:
“What do you want to do? Do you want to have people lose their legs or do you want to show them what happens so that they won’t lose their legs? Take your poison. Which do you want?” said Bloomberg. ‘You can’t have it both ways. Do you want to help people or do you want to have a story and say ‘oh, we don’t want to annoy you, we don’t want to worry you.’”
The lose your legs comment applies to an ad in the series that focused on how increased portion sizes may lead to the increased risk of type 2 diabetes. That ad along with the others in the campaign are here.
The truth is sometimes hard to swallow (slight pun intended). As I said yesterday, if you can’t control restaurant portion sizes then you need to be in control over how you eat them.

This is disgusting. I mean, I knew fast food was bad for you, but that first meal is what, five years old here, and it looks like it was just made yesterday. It makes you wonder what chemicals are in there to keep them like that.

Sadly, not enough people would buy fast food if it looked like this. There was a &#8220;healthy&#8221; fast food place that opened in my home town. Didn&#8217;t last. People just don&#8217;t want healthy when they&#8217;re looking for grease-fried grease.

Say hello to mechanically separated chicken. It’s what all fast-food chicken is made from — things like chicken nuggets and patties. Also, the processed frozen chicken in the stores is made from it.
Basically, the entire chicken is smashed and pressed through a sieve — bones, eyes, guts, and all. it comes out looking like this.
There’s more: because it’s crawling with bacteria, it will be washed with ammonia, soaked in it, actually. Then, because it tastes gross, it will be reflavored artificially. Then, because it is weirdly pink, it will be dyed with artificial color. —-THE END—-

 So Glad I am a vegetarian.

Fun fact: I was scrolling down the page and initially thought it was some sort of watermelon frozen yogurt. Imagine my shock and horror when I read the description.

Ladies and gentlemen, I have the solution: don&#8217;t eat processed chicken products. Easy. On the rare occasion I&#8217;m willing to sacrifice my skin&#8217;s health to eat chicken, I get a rotisserie chicken from my local grocery store. I cut it up myself, so I know exactly what parts I&#8217;m eating. That&#8217;s all it really takes. I can&#8217;t remember the last time I had fast food chicken nuggets.
